John’s Head on a Plate
A letter to Jesus

Mark 6: 24–25
24 She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?”
“The head of John the Baptist,” [the mother] answered.
25 At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”
Baby,
I’m wondering about
John
the “Baptist.”
*
Is it possible
he
deserved
his head
chopped
off?
*
Okay,
deserved
is a
difficult
word.
*
I’m just thinking
was there lying
and
deceit
that could only be revealed
when he met
you?
I’m just wondering
if he was one of those
healer-
psychic-
hacks-
who goes around
saying he knows things,
but can’t treat people
with a simple
“please,”
a civil, polite,
“thank you,”
for work
performed.
*
The kind that
doesn’t look
you
in the eye
when you walk
into a room
to meet him
for
coffee.
*
That kind
of baptist.
*
A guy who knows,
all along,
he’s a charlatan
and then he meets
the Real Thing
and throws up
his hands
for the sake of
destiny….
*
Was that kind of
what he was
to you?
